Terms and Conditions for Keycho

These Terms and Conditions apply to the use of the macOS application Keycho, provided by:

1. Scope

These Terms and Conditions apply to the use of Keycho.

Keycho is distributed through Apple’s Mac App Store. Your purchase, download, payment, refund, and use of the Mac App Store are also governed by Apple’s applicable terms and the applicable App Store end-user licence agreement.

These Terms supplement Apple’s applicable terms. Mandatory consumer-protection provisions and mandatory provisions of Apple’s applicable terms remain unaffected.

Apple is not the developer or operator of Keycho.

3. Description of the Application

Keycho is a macOS application that detects keyboard events and displays the pressed keys or keyboard shortcuts as visual overlays on the user’s screen.

Depending on the current version and selected settings, its functionality may include:

displaying individual keystrokes;
displaying combinations involving modifier keys;
displaying only keyboard shortcuts or modifier combinations;
playing mechanical keyboard sound effects;
selecting different visualisation positions;
configuring the display duration;
supporting light and dark appearances;
configuring sound preferences; and
launching automatically when the user logs in.

The precise functionality, system requirements, compatibility information, and available settings are described in the current Mac App Store listing and application interface.

4. Intended Purpose

Keycho is intended to support screen recordings, software tutorials, streams, presentations, demonstrations, and similar visual communication.

The application is designed as a keystroke visualisation tool.

It is not intended to:

securely record evidence of keyboard activity;
create an authoritative keyboard log;
monitor employees or other individuals;
capture passwords or confidential communications;
replace professional broadcasting software; or
provide security, auditing, accessibility certification, or surveillance functionality.

5. Technical Requirements and Permissions

Keycho requires:

a compatible Mac;
a supported version of macOS;
sufficient system resources;
the permissions required by macOS to detect keyboard input; and
compatible display and audio settings.

Keycho may require accessibility or input-monitoring permission to detect keyboard events outside the application.

The user is responsible for granting and managing these permissions through macOS.

If the required permission is denied or withdrawn, Keycho may be unable to provide some or all of its core functionality.

The user is responsible for checking the system requirements displayed in the Mac App Store before purchasing or installing the application.

6. Licence

Subject to payment of the applicable purchase price and compliance with these Terms and Apple’s applicable licence conditions, you receive a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, and revocable right to install and use Keycho on compatible Apple devices associated with your App Store account, as permitted by Apple’s applicable usage rules.

The application is licensed, not sold.

You may not:

reproduce or distribute the application except where expressly permitted by law or Apple’s terms;
rent, lease, sublicense, sell, or commercially redistribute the application;
circumvent technical protection mechanisms;
use unlawful methods to extract, copy, or reproduce substantial parts of the application;
reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the application, except where expressly permitted by mandatory law;
remove copyright, trademark, or attribution notices; or
use the application in a way that infringes our rights or the rights of third parties.

7. Purchase and Payment

Purchases are processed through Apple’s Mac App Store.

The purchase price shown by Apple at the time of purchase applies.

Apple is responsible for processing payments and may apply taxes, regional pricing, currency conversions, or other App Store conditions.

Unless expressly stated otherwise in the current App Store listing, Keycho is offered as a one-time purchase and does not require a recurring subscription.

Invoices, payment confirmations, billing questions, and App Store payment issues are generally handled through Apple.

8. Withdrawal, Cancellation, and Refunds

Statutory consumer rights remain unaffected.

Where Keycho is purchased through the Mac App Store, cancellation and refund requests must generally be submitted through Apple and are handled in accordance with Apple’s applicable rules and mandatory consumer-protection law.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or restricts a statutory right to withdrawal, refund, repair, replacement, price reduction, termination, or damages where such a right applies.

9. Updates

We may provide updates to:

fix errors;
improve performance;
improve compatibility;
address security or privacy issues;
adapt Keycho to changes in macOS;
comply with legal or App Store requirements; or
modify or improve the application’s functionality.

Updates may require a newer version of macOS or compatible hardware.

Mandatory statutory obligations concerning updates for digital products remain unaffected.

We do not guarantee indefinite compatibility with operating-system versions, hardware, technologies, or permissions that are no longer supported by Apple.

10. Keystroke Detection

Keycho must detect keyboard events to provide its visualisation functionality.

The application is intended to process keystrokes temporarily and locally for the purpose of displaying them and playing selected sound effects.

Keycho is not intended to create or retain a permanent history of everything typed by the user.

The user understands that the visualisation may reveal keyboard input to anyone who can see the user’s screen, recording, stream, or presentation.

11. Sensitive Information

The user is responsible for pausing, disabling, or quitting Keycho before entering information that should not be displayed.

This may include:

passwords;
authentication codes;
recovery keys;
payment details;
confidential messages;
private customer information;
medical information;
legal information;
trade secrets; and
other personal or sensitive data.

We do not guarantee that Keycho can automatically determine whether a key was pressed in a sensitive or protected context.

The user must review all recordings, streams, screen shares, and presentations before publishing or distributing them.

12. Recordings, Streams, and Presentations

Keycho does not itself control the recording, streaming, publication, or distribution of screen content by third-party applications.

When using Keycho with recording, streaming, conferencing, or presentation software, the user is responsible for:

ensuring that the use is lawful;
obtaining any required permissions;
protecting confidential content;
reviewing what is visible on screen;
checking the output before publication;
complying with platform rules; and
complying with privacy, employment, copyright, and confidentiality obligations.

We are not responsible for content captured or published by third-party recording or streaming software.

13. Keyboard Sounds

Keycho may play sound effects in response to detected keyboard input.

The user is responsible for choosing an appropriate volume and ensuring that the sound effects do not disrupt other people, recordings, meetings, presentations, or shared environments.

The timing and reproduction of sound effects may be affected by:

system load;
audio settings;
connected audio devices;
Bluetooth latency;
macOS updates;
other running applications; or
hardware limitations.

We do not guarantee perfectly latency-free audio output in every technical environment.

14. Display Accuracy

Keycho aims to display pressed keys and keyboard combinations accurately.

However, the visualisation may occasionally be incomplete, delayed, duplicated, incorrectly formatted, or unavailable.

This may occur due to:

missing or withdrawn permissions;
macOS security restrictions;
keyboard layouts;
input methods;
accessibility features;
specialised keyboards;
application-specific keyboard handling;
rapid or simultaneous key combinations;
system performance; or
operating-system updates.

The user must not rely on Keycho as the sole or authoritative record of keyboard activity.

15. Keyboard Layouts and Input Methods

The appearance and interpretation of keyboard events may differ depending on:

the selected keyboard layout;
the user’s language;
hardware keyboard type;
custom key mappings;
third-party input methods;
accessibility settings; and
modifier-key configuration.

Keycho may not display every key, symbol, dead key, function key, media key, or custom shortcut identically across all configurations.

16. Launch at Login

Keycho may provide an option to launch automatically when the user logs in to macOS.

The user can enable or disable this functionality through Keycho or the relevant macOS settings.

Changes to macOS may affect the availability or behaviour of this feature.

17. Prohibited Use

You may not use Keycho:

for unlawful purposes;
to secretly monitor another person;
to record or collect another person’s keyboard input without a lawful basis;
to obtain passwords, authentication details, financial information, or confidential communications;
to violate privacy, employment, surveillance, or data-protection laws;
to infringe intellectual-property rights;
to interfere with another person’s device or account;
to distribute malware or malicious code;
to circumvent security controls; or
in a manner that violates Apple’s applicable terms.

Keycho must not be used as spyware, surveillance software, or a covert keylogger.

18. Responsibility for Lawful Use

You are solely responsible for ensuring that your use of Keycho complies with applicable laws and third-party rights.

This includes, where relevant:

data-protection and privacy laws;
workplace and employee-monitoring rules;
confidentiality obligations;
copyright and trademark law;
personality and publicity rights;
platform and streaming rules;
contractual obligations; and
recording and surveillance laws.

You must obtain any consent or authorisation required before displaying, recording, monitoring, streaming, or publishing another person’s keyboard activity.

19. Third-Party Services

Keycho may be used together with third-party applications such as screen-recording, streaming, presentation, conferencing, or editing software.

These third-party services are not controlled by us.

We are not responsible for:

their availability;
their functionality;
their privacy practices;
their recording or streaming behaviour;
their compatibility with Keycho; or
content transmitted or stored through them.

Your use of third-party services is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.

20. Availability and Compatibility

We aim to provide a functional and reliable application but cannot guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation in every hardware, operating-system, keyboard, display, audio, and application configuration.

Temporary limitations may result from:

software errors;
macOS updates;
permission changes;
hardware limitations;
third-party software;
custom keyboard drivers;
unusual input methods; or
changes made by Apple.

Mandatory rights concerning the conformity of digital products remain unaffected.

21. Liability

We are liable without limitation:

in cases of intent or gross negligence;
for injury to life, body, or health;
under applicable product-liability law;
where a guarantee has expressly been given; and
in other cases where liability cannot legally be excluded or limited.

In cases of slight negligence, we are liable only for the breach of an essential contractual obligation whose fulfilment is necessary for proper performance of the contract and on which the user may ordinarily rely.

In such cases, liability is limited to foreseeable damage typical for this type of contract.

The above limitations also apply to our legal representatives and agents.

Mandatory consumer rights and liability provisions remain unaffected.

22. No Guarantee of Recording Suitability

Keycho is a visual presentation tool.

We do not guarantee that its output will be suitable for:

professional broadcast requirements;
evidentiary purposes;
accessibility compliance;
security auditing;
employee monitoring;
examination monitoring;
legal documentation; or
any other purpose requiring a complete and authoritative record.

The user remains responsible for reviewing and approving the final recording, stream, presentation, or publication.

23. Termination of Use

You may stop using and uninstall Keycho at any time.

Your licence may end if you materially violate these Terms or the applicable App Store licence conditions, subject to applicable law.

Provisions that by their nature should continue after termination, including intellectual-property, liability, and governing-law provisions, remain applicable.

24. Apple-Specific Provisions

You acknowledge that these Terms are concluded between you and the application provider, not Apple.

To the extent required by Apple’s applicable terms:

the application provider, rather than Apple, is responsible for Keycho and its content;
Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support services for Keycho;
Apple is not responsible for claims concerning Keycho except where required by law;
Apple and its subsidiaries may be third-party beneficiaries of the applicable licence terms; and
Apple may enforce applicable licence provisions against you.

These provisions do not limit any rights you may have directly against Apple under Apple’s own terms or applicable law.

25. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms where reasonably necessary because of:

changes to Keycho;
legal or regulatory requirements;
security or privacy considerations;
changes to Apple’s platform; or
clarification of existing provisions.

Changes will not retroactively remove rights already acquired by consumers.

Where required, users will be informed of material changes in an appropriate manner.

26. Governing Law

The laws of the Federal Republic of Germany apply, excluding the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods.

For consumers, this choice of law does not deprive them of mandatory protections provided by the law of the country in which they have their habitual residence.

Mandatory rules regarding jurisdiction remain unaffected.

27. Dispute Resolution

We are neither willing nor obliged to participate in dispute-resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board, unless a legal obligation to participate applies.

28. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is or becomes invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain unaffected.

The applicable statutory provision shall take the place of the invalid or unenforceable provision.
