This Privacy Policy explains how personal data is handled when you use the macOS application Keycho, provided by:

1. Privacy at a Glance
Keycho is designed to process keyboard input locally on your Mac.
The application detects keystrokes in order to display them visually on your screen and, where enabled, play keyboard sound effects.
Keystrokes processed by Keycho are not uploaded to us, transmitted to our servers, sold, used for advertising, or used to build a typing history.
We do not operate a backend server for Keycho and do not have access to the keys you press while using the application.
2. Local Processing of Keystrokes
To provide its core functionality, Keycho may detect keyboard input while the application is active.
This processing is necessary to:
- display pressed keys and keyboard shortcuts on screen;
- distinguish between regular keys and modifier keys;
- detect combinations involving keys such as Command, Option, Control, and Shift;
- determine how long a keystroke visualization should remain visible;
- trigger locally stored keyboard sound effects; and
- position the visualization according to your selected settings.
This processing takes place locally on your Mac.
Keycho does not transmit your keystrokes to the developer or to any external server.
3. No Keystroke History
Keycho is a visualisation tool, not a keylogger.
The application is not designed to create a permanent history of your typing.
Keycho does not intentionally:
- create a searchable keystroke log;
- store complete words, messages, passwords, or documents;
- associate keystrokes with particular websites, applications, accounts, or individuals;
- transmit keyboard input to the developer;
- use keyboard input for profiling or advertising; or
- use keyboard input to train artificial-intelligence models.
Keystrokes may be held temporarily in the device’s memory for the short period necessary to display the visualisation and play the selected sound. They are not retained as a permanent typing record by Keycho.
4. Sensitive Input
Keycho may technically detect keyboard events while you type in other applications because this is necessary for system-wide keystroke visualisation.
Depending on the protections implemented by macOS and the application in which you are typing, keyboard events may include input entered into text fields or other interfaces.
Keycho does not intentionally identify whether a key was pressed in a password field, private message, financial application, or other sensitive context.
For this reason, you should pause or quit Keycho whenever you do not want your keystrokes to appear visibly on screen, particularly when:
- entering passwords or authentication codes;
- entering payment or banking information;
- writing confidential messages;
- processing personal or sensitive information;
- sharing your screen;
- recording your screen; or
- presenting to an audience.
You remain responsible for checking what is visible in your recording, stream, presentation, or screen share.
5. Accessibility Permission
Keycho may require permission to access keyboard events through macOS accessibility or input-monitoring functionality.
This permission is controlled by macOS and can be reviewed or withdrawn through your Mac’s privacy and security settings.
Keycho uses this permission only to provide its keystroke visualisation and related sound functionality.
If you withdraw the required permission, some or all of the application’s core features may stop working.
6. Application Settings
Keycho may store preferences locally on your Mac, including settings such as:
- selected display mode;
- visualisation position;
- display duration;
- selected keyboard sound;
- sound volume;
- light or dark appearance preferences; and
- whether Keycho should launch when you log in.
These preferences are stored locally to preserve your configuration between sessions.
They are not transmitted to us.
You can generally remove local application settings by resetting the application, deleting its local data, or uninstalling it.
7. Launch at Login
If you enable the “Launch at Login” option, macOS may register Keycho as a login item on your Mac.
This setting is managed locally through macOS.
You can disable it within Keycho or through the login-item settings provided by macOS.
Enabling this feature does not create an online account and does not transmit your login information to us.
8. Keyboard Sounds
Keyboard sound effects included with Keycho are played locally on your Mac.
The application does not record audio through your microphone and does not transmit audio to us.
Keycho does not require microphone access merely to play its included keyboard sounds.
9. Screen Recording and Streaming
Keycho displays visual information on your screen.
If you use third-party recording, conferencing, presentation, or streaming software, that software may capture the visualisations generated by Keycho.
Keycho does not control how third-party applications record, transmit, store, or publish your screen content.
The privacy practices of those third-party applications are governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
You are responsible for reviewing your recording or stream and ensuring that no confidential or sensitive keystrokes are displayed.
10. No User Accounts
Keycho does not require you to create a user account.
We do not collect through the application:
- names;
- usernames;
- passwords;
- account profiles;
- contact lists;
- typing histories; or
- cloud-stored settings.
11. Analytics, Tracking, and Advertising
Keycho does not contain:
- advertising;
- third-party advertising trackers;
- behavioural tracking;
- cross-app tracking;
- user profiling;
- custom analytics services;
- marketing SDKs; or
- analytics based on the keys you press.
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal data.
12. Apple and the Mac App Store
Keycho is distributed through Apple’s Mac App Store.
Apple may independently process information relating to:
- your App Store account;
- your purchase and payment;
- application downloads;
- your device;
- App Store usage;
- crash reports; and
- diagnostic information.
Apple processes this information independently under Apple’s own privacy policies and contractual terms.
We generally do not receive your full payment details from Apple.
Apple may provide developers with aggregated sales, download, performance, or diagnostic information. Depending on your macOS privacy settings, Apple may also make certain crash or diagnostic reports available to developers.
Such information is processed independently from the keystrokes handled locally by Keycho.
13. Contact by Email
When you contact us by email, we process the information contained in your message, including your email address, in order to respond to your request.
Depending on the nature of your request, the legal basis for this processing is:
- Article 6(1)(b) GDPR, where the communication is necessary to perform a contract or take steps relating to a contract; or
- Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, based on our legitimate interest in answering questions, providing technical support, and handling feedback.
Support correspondence is retained only for as long as necessary to handle the request and comply with applicable legal obligations.
Email communication may involve processing by the email and hosting providers used to deliver and store messages.
Please do not include passwords, authentication codes, confidential keystroke histories, or other unnecessary sensitive information in support emails.
14. Legal and Administrative Obligations
We may process limited personal data where necessary to:
- comply with legal obligations;
- document purchases or support cases;
- establish, exercise, or defend legal claims;
- prevent fraud or misuse; or
- respond to lawful requests from public authorities.
The applicable legal bases may include Article 6(1)(c) and Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.
15. Data Retention
Because Keycho does not transmit keystrokes to us, we do not store or retain your keyboard input.
Locally stored application preferences remain on your Mac until you change them, reset the application, remove its local data, or uninstall Keycho.
Personal data received through support communications is deleted when it is no longer necessary for the relevant purpose, unless statutory retention obligations require longer storage.
16. Data Sharing
We do not receive or share the keyboard input processed locally by Keycho.
Personal data submitted through email communications may be processed by service providers that assist us with email, hosting, or technical infrastructure.
These providers may process personal data only to the extent necessary to provide their services and subject to applicable data-protection requirements.
We may disclose information where required by law or necessary to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
17. International Data Transfers
Keycho itself does not transmit your keystrokes internationally.
Apple and providers used for email or technical services may process personal data outside the European Economic Area.
Where required by applicable law, such transfers are subject to appropriate safeguards.

18. Your Rights
Under the GDPR, you may have the right to:
- request access to your personal data;
- request correction of inaccurate personal data;
- request deletion of your personal data;
- request restriction of processing;
- object to processing based on legitimate interests;
- receive personal data you provided in a portable format where applicable; and
- withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
Because Keycho does not transmit or store your keystrokes on our systems, we cannot access, retrieve, correct, or delete such locally processed input for you.

19. Security
Keycho is designed to minimise privacy risks by processing keystrokes locally and avoiding permanent keystroke storage.
You remain responsible for:
- protecting access to your Mac;
- controlling which applications may record your screen;
- checking what is visible during recordings and presentations;
- protecting confidential or sensitive information;
- managing macOS accessibility and input-monitoring permissions; and
- quitting or pausing Keycho when visualisation is not appropriate.
No technical system can guarantee absolute security.
20. Children
Keycho is not specifically directed at children and does not provide user accounts or an online service through which children knowingly submit personal data to us.
Parents and legal guardians are responsible for supervising the use of Keycho by minors, particularly during streaming, recording, or screen sharing.
21. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy if:
- Keycho’s features change;
- its technical operation changes;
- new third-party services are introduced; or
- applicable legal requirements change.
The current version will be made available through the application, its App Store listing, or an associated website.
